This website is dedicted to promoting the 400 class of Motorcycle road racing.
In any sport it is important to have a place to start. It should be inexpensive and fun, to encourage new comers to join in and promote healthy competition. In Australia and motorocycle road racing, the 400 class is it for those wishing to race 4 strokes and are older than 15 years old.
The 400cc four stroke class of racing has proven to be very successful over the last 7 years with grids of over 40 bikes in some cases. It is inexpensive to get into and run, yet fast and competitive. Even so, the bikes are not so powerful that beginners can not get in there and give it a good go. If it's a class you really like, there is no reason why you should move on. Some riders have cut their teeth in Formula 400 and are still having a blast week after week racing the same bike they started on. The racing is fast, clean, close and great fun. To add to the mix there is more to it than rumour that the 250GP class will become MotoGP2 with 400cc four strokes instead of 250 two strokes. This is expected around 2011.
Riders who have started in Formula 400 have moved on to a range of different classes. Top 5 competitors have gone on to Aussie Supersport and Superbike rides and in at least 1 case with a major team. With the demise of the 250 production class, Formula 400 is a great entry level class and will undoubtedly see many more riders go through the ranks to become top Aussie and maybe even World Championship level riders.
What is a Formula 400 bike? What is the difference between a 4 and 2 stroke engine? How do you get started? and many other questions are answered on this website. We will bring you up to date with latest developments, racing stories and the characters that can be found piloting 400's around Australia.
